Constitution of the Council

On the 23 May 2008, the County Council approved an Interim Constitution to enable the Council to perform effectively during the transition period. The Constitution sets out how the Council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people. A complete revision will be required for Vesting Day in April 2009 to reflect the new governance arrangements for the Unitary Authority as well as a new organisational structure and service responsibilities.

Please note that the Constitution is a large document and can be viewed by opening the attached PDF. You can then navigate your way through the Constitution from the contents page by selecting the section you are interested in.
