Community Safety Partnerships

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, as amended by the Police Reform Act 2002, places a statutory duty on ‘responsible authorities’ to work together and with other agencies to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and the misuse of drugs. In County Durham the responsible authorities are Durham County Council, Durham Constabulary, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Authority, District/Borough Councils, Durham Police Authority and each Primary Care Trust.

There are five established Community Safety Partnerships across County Durham.

'Have Your Say' in Reducing Crime and Fear of Crime

The Crime and Communities review is looking at how local communities, the police, local criminal justice agencies and other local partners can best work together to reduce crime, raise community confidence, improve information to local people and lower the fear of crime.  The review also is looking at what makes people get involved in tackling problems in their community.

A key part of the review is to gather together evidence – and the voices, experiences and opinions of the public and other interested groups and representatives are key to this.

As part of this evidence gathering, the review team has put together a Have Your Say on-line questionnaire which covers some of the key questions of the review.  We would be grateful if you would take the time to complete it if you have a view you would like to share.

The deadline to complete the questionnaire is Friday 11 April 2008..
