Durham County Council Contract for the Supply and Delivery of Food Products
Contract Period: 1 February 2009 to 31 January 2011 (Option to extend for further 2 years)
The Council is reviewing the way in which it tenders for food supplies. To outline the aims and objectives of the forthcoming tendering opportunities a supplier event is being held at County Hall, Durham on Monday 14 July 2008. The Council supplies food to 60 establishments throughout County Durham, with an annual spend of £1.7million. The main focus of the event will be:
- Supplier engagement including small and medium sized businesses.
- To explore the possibility of reducing ‘food miles’ and both the Council’s and suppliers carbon footprint by examining the logistics of delivery.
- To explore the environmental impacts associated with supply and distribution of food.
- To investigate and discuss the possibilities of co-distribution between suppliers.
- To better understand the local and regional food market.
- To explore opportunities for competitive pricing.
- To explore the opportunity to raise the levels of the quality of the food provided to the Council.
- For potential suppliers to gain an overview of new regional tender documents aimed at simplifying the tender process.
