Past Perfect

The Past Perfect website is the result of a partnership between the County Councils of Durham and Northumberland, with the NOF. The site uses virtual reality interactive technology to allow visitors to explore the archaeology and history of the two counties. The councils have taken dusty old archives from archaeological excavations and have produced virtual 3D models of the sites. These models are accessible to many people through the Internet, libraries, museums and galleries free of charge. You will also be able to gather information such as photos, plans or drawings from the archive, as well as learning about the techniques archaeologists use to investigate the past.

Image of medieval woman from Past Perfect

Ever wondered what it was like in a prehistoric round house, to stroll down a street in a Roman Fort, or listen to the saga of Beowulf told around a fire in an Anglo-Saxon Palace?... Past Perfect will bring it to life for you.

Musical Instrument

Visitors can browse around seven very different archaeological sites, experiencing how people lived in these places. These sites range from a coal mine to a medieval castle, from an Anglo-Saxon palace to a prehistoric landscape. Whichever period you are interested in, you will be able to virtually wander round, and experience what it was like.
